Training
and exercise for a specific sport
or for general health is about doing
the least amount of training or exercise
necessary to achieve your objective.
Establishing the frequency, duration,
type and intensity of exercise, and
recovery period is important to get
the best out of any training or exercise
programme. It is very easy to over
train or do the wrong type of training.
Fletcher Sport Science offers an individual,
discreet and confidential service
to athletes of all ages who run, swim,
cycle or row or to individuals who
just want to look after their general
health and fitness.
Our training and exercise methods
are built on an understanding of CPR
– Consistency, Progression and
Recovery.
Consistency
Establishing repeatable training that
emphasizes technique, timing and rhythm
to build aerobic endurance through
physiological adaptation, utilising
the correct mix of frequency, duration,
intensity of exercise and recovery
periods
Progression
Establishing a periodised training
plan that builds progressive fitness
at higher intensities of exercise,
through physiological adaptation, whilst
maintaining base endurance, technique,
timing, rhythm and recovery periods
Recovery
Managing the psychological and physiological
stress caused by training and daily
living to ensure good health and prevention
of over training, illness and injury
recognising that the largest influences
on training and race performance are
external stress factors, diet, hydration
and the lack of adequate rest and
recovery.
Eddie Fletcher is the creator of the duration-intensity-recovery line which is an athlete specific Z diagram that links duration (in minutes) with intensity (by heart rate and percentage of V0 2max ) and cardiovascular fatigue (using a numerical recovery scale). It is calculated from a sport specific sub maximal or maximal fitness test that uses heart rate variability technology and software to produce the result. The duration-intensity-recovery line is a flexible tool which answers the questions - How long should I train for? – How hard should it be? – How long do I need for recovery.
Eddie Fletcher is an independent sport
and exercise physiologist with a wealth
of practical experience. He has an
MSc in sport and exercise science,
and is a member of the British Association
of Sport and Exercise Scientists and
the Register of Exercise Professionals.
He is also a Concept 2 Master Instructor
and Coach to a number of indoor rowers,
triathletes, lifesavers and paddle
boarders. He was team manager/coach
for the 2004-2007 World Championship
British Indoor Rowing Squads.
Training and exercise programmes are
tailored to the individual client
following appropriate sport specific
physiological testing and are suitable
for beginners through to elite athletes.
Programmes can be devised for clients
who need to communicate by telephone
or e-mail as well as personal one
to one coaching.
