I met Eddie in 2003 at the World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston, after several years of using the Concept2 Rower in a fairly haphazard fashion. Inside 6 months of his personalised, heart-rate-based training programme, despite having to train at sea, I achieved a personal best of 6:19.0 for the 2k at the age of 40.
Although other commitments have intervened, meaning training has not been easy, and I have not quite reached those heights since, I have competed successfully at several Grand Prix, the British Indoor Championships and again in Boston. I regularly finish inside the top half-dozen, winning Gold at the Scottish Championships in Stranraer last year, and the Royal Navy Championships in 2003.
On a limited amount of training over the last two years, my achievements are testament to how effective Eddie's methods are. He is incredibly knowledgeable and a source of much more than merely a training programme - his advice, motivation and encouragement, particularly at events, and his willingness to travel to be with his competitors, speaks volumes. He is keen to enable those who follow his programmes to achieve their potential, whether or not this means adding to his already very impressive collection of Gold, Silver or Bronze medals.
